- Start with a capsule wardrobe collection of vases. My favourites include: A glass globe, a tall glass cylinder, a cube, a cream ceramic jug and an old teapot. Between them all I can display my flowers in any room, formally or informally.
- If the idea of arranging flowers is overwhelming, invest in a vase with a very narrow neck. You can then display a single stem which will look minimal and extremely stylish.
- I always recommend buying flowers in their natural season. They will be the best quality and should be the most reasonably priced. e.g. Tulips in Spring, Stocks in summer.
- Buy scented flowers whenever you can. Not only do they look good but they will make your room smell good too!
- For extra theatre why not display your flowers in a glass vase and use sparkling water. The bubbles are a real talking point!
- Always display flowers away from direct sunlight, radiators and draughts. Instead put them them somewhere cool and bright
- Trim flower stems with sharp scissors making a clean diagonal cut. No crushing or bashing!
- I love lilies but the pollen stains so easily. If you are unlucky enough to get the pollen on your clothes simply dab off with sellotape.
- Make sure your vase is super clean. Dirty vases hide bacteria which can upset your flowers.
- Take care to remove any leaves that sit below the water line in your vase. Left on they will go slimy and smelly.
