BALL OF BLOOMS
The art of topiary has been popular for years. Forget all that snipping, pruning and fussing this easy number simply uses 30 daffodils (cheap as chips in the spring). The result will impress and amaze your friends, don’t tell them how easy it was to make!
You will need:30 daffodils or similar Narcissi
plain glass cylinder vase
5 handfuls of green gravel
1m of ribbon
some string to tie around the stems
Step 1:I found it easier to work with slightly open flowers. Hold the stems firmly very near the base of the flower. Keep adding 1 stem at a time, tucking them in under the last flower to form a ball shape
Step 2:Once you have all the stems in your hand check you have a nice even ball shape. First tie the stems with string as close to the heads as possible to secure. Also tie the base of the stems. Then bind the stems with your ribbon
Step 3:Cut the base of the stems as level as you can and stand your topiary in the centre of the vase. Carefully pour in the gravel with your hand making sure it is even all the way round. Keep a steady hand as fill the vase to one third.
Step 4:
Now top up with water. I prefer not to see water above the line of the stones. This makes a stunning table centre. Alternatively display in pride of place in the hall. It is sure to make an impact as your guests arrive.

JANEY'S TOP TIPS:
Sunflowers are perfect for this arrangement. Choose one with big heads - you will need less to make your ball. Remember to keep them well watered.
